I’ll admit I used to be the kind of person who would feel stuck in a situation that would seem to leave me in a head spin for days worrying about my life, the future, or worse, about which choices to make. But these days I’m a happier and more centred person who takes life as it comes and is experiencing many blessings. But I’ll admit that at one time the idea of such a life seemed to mystify me….

How did I get here?

A small adjustment in my thinking. Let me share, and hopefully by the end of reading this, you will find it helps you as well.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of a book called “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy? I read this book a few years ago when I was struggling with my weight. In this book, there are stories about different people who make what seem to be small and insignificant changes, but over time, become profound, both positive and negative.

A few days ago, I found myself in a situation that left me feeling like all the work I was doing on myself was about to go south….and over something that I had little or no control over. That night …. I took advice from a vlog post to re-read a book from my past that made a profound difference in my life, and I’m glad I did. The book I reached for was “The Compound Effect,” and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

I began reading it the next day and, thankfully, revisited this situation from a different perspective, and later realized how amusing it actually was to get a real sense of what Darren Hardy was actually talking about…

About how we can take a person who is happy and who actually has a great life and how quickly it can begin to unravel and move in the wrong direction if you chose to focus more on directing your focus on the negative instead of the positive.

The saddest self-actualization I’ve ever made was realizing I had wasted 10 years of my life over people and things who either didn’t deserve the energy it took, or over things I had little or no power over.

And if I wasn’t careful, I could just as easily waste another year on the same, which is why it became important to me to stop wasting my life on things that truly don’t matter anymore, as it just wastes your life!

Your true power comes from the present, not the past, and the only person who can make you happy is yourself. If you’re stewing over stuff that is already over, or that you have little or no control over, then you are making a choice to focus your energy on these things instead of directing your life in the right direction. Sadly, this is all your life will ever be, until you choose to change it!

To get up every day to be the person you want to be, and make choices that guide your life in that direction. Happiness is a choice!  So is taking your life in a direction that makes you truly happy…every day, not just once in a while.

I find that it helps if I ever feel stuck, uncertain, or afraid, to take a few moments to breathe and get out of my head and into my heart again. Trusting that each day will guide you. I really find that it helps to be mentally present to the day, person, or task in front of you, right now. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.

  • Make peace with the past
  • Regroup,
  • redirect your energy
  • And carry on, carry on!

Trust the day will lead you where you need to be. Believe in yourself, and continue to show up for yourself, your growth, and your happiness every day!  And in no time your efforts will bear fruit……

Til next time…
